About this position

Postdoc in Fluidized-Bed CO₂ Adsorption at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.

This postdoctoral position is based at the Division of Energy Technology within the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. The role sits in a research group focused on fluidization and is part of FlexCSAR, an EU project developing a flexible adsorption-based technology for capturing CO₂ from flue gases.

The project investigates a gas-solids fluidized bed system as an alternative to conventional liquid-solvent capture and fixed-bed adsorption. A key idea is to enable operation with low-grade heat in combination with vacuum and heat pumps, allowing the process to be optimized according to the availability and prices of electricity and heat. The work is strongly connected to carbon capture, climate mitigation, and low-emission energy systems.

The successful applicant will coordinate project tasks at Chalmers and contribute to the design, construction, and instrumentation of a physical model of a fluidized-bed adsorption stage. Research tasks include measuring and studying solids fluid dynamics, interphase mass transfer, and bed-to-exchanger heat transfer, as well as developing closure expressions for mass and heat transfer models. The postdoc will also communicate with project partners, write scientific publications and project reports, and, depending on interest, supervise undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students and teach at undergraduate/master’s level.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, strong English communication skills, and evidence of initiative in research. Experience in experimental research, gas-solids flow, and academic supervision is viewed positively. The appointment is a full-time temporary position for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence throughout the employment is required.

Chalmers offers a collaborative and dynamic research environment, employee benefits, and a location in Gothenburg, Sweden. The university highlights equality, diversity, and inclusion, and notes support such as Swedish language courses for international staff. The application must be submitted in English via the Chalmers application system by 7 October 2026. Required documents include a comprehensive CV with publications, details of teaching and supervision experience, a personal letter describing research background and future goals, and a PhD thesis abstract.

For questions about the position, contact Diana Carolina Guío Pérez ([email protected]) or David Pallarès ([email protected]).
