About this position
Postdoc Position (m/f/d) in Bioinspired Protein Materials and Sustainable 3D Printing at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Stuttgart.
The Biomimetic Materials and Machines Group, led by Dr. Florian Hartmann, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on bioinspired protein materials, sustainable 3D printing, polymer chemistry, materials science, additive manufacturing, and microfluidics. The project aims to develop protein-based biomaterials that can replace commodity plastics in demanding applications while remaining fully biodegradable.
Research directions mentioned include: synthesis of biomaterials and protein-based crosslinking strategies; multi-material 3D printing of custom materials; and microfluidic mixing strategies for on-demand material processing. The position is part of a collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, and is connected to sustainable materials research and advanced manufacturing.
Eligibility highlights: a doctorate in chemical engineering, materials science, biochemistry, or a related field; experience writing research articles; and an advantage for candidates with experience in polymers, hydrogels, crosslinking chemistry, biopolymer systems, extrusion-based printing, microfluidics, or fluidic mixing systems. Strong English communication skills and interest in interdisciplinary research are expected.
Funding: fully funded for 2 years, with a fixed-term employment contract under TVöD salary group E13.
Application: submit a CV, full publication list (highlighting the 3 most important papers), a one-page cover letter, and contact information for 2–3 references via the application portal. Review begins in June 2026; deadline is 2026-09-30.
