About this position

Postdoc in Cancer Neuroscience at EPFL

The Kim Laboratory at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, is recruiting a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study how neuronal activity and the physical tumor microenvironment cooperate to drive brain cancer progression.

The project focuses on cancer neuroscience, glioma biology, neuron–glioma interactions, mechanochemical signaling, tissue stiffness, extracellular matrix composition, and mechanosensitive ion channels such as PIEZO1. The lab combines advanced molecular and optical technologies with molecular biology, cell biology, systems neuroscience, and bioengineering approaches.

Applicants should hold a PhD in neuroscience, cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field. Strong expertise in whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology is expected. Experience with stereotactic surgery, intracranial tumor models, acute brain-slice recordings, calcium imaging, and cancer research is highly desirable. Excellent written and spoken English and a strong publication record, including at least one first-author paper, are required.

The position is fully funded for at least three years, with access to EPFL facilities, international collaborations, and close mentorship in experimental design, manuscript preparation, fellowship applications, and career development. The preferred start date is 01.10.2026 or flexible.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Apply only through the EPFL online platform. For questions, contact Dr. Yoon Kim at [email protected].
