About this position

Amsterdam UMC is advertising a Postdoc Computational Immunology position within the bioinformatics group of the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science. The project focuses on uncovering the complex biology of the lymph node by developing a mechanistic, spatio-temporal multiscale computational model to better understand immune function in health and disease.

The successful candidate will work on computational immunology, single-cell omics, agent-based modelling, and differential equation-based approaches. Initial work includes building a model in Julia around T-cell activation, cell motility, cell-cell interactions, gene regulatory and signalling networks, and chemokine gradients. The model may be extended to include B-cell regions, germinal centre dynamics, stromal and fibroblast populations, and other lymph node compartments.

The postdoc will use single-cell omics and other public/collaborator datasets to parameterize the model and will document the work using the ENCORE framework. The role also includes collaboration with principal investigators, immunologists, and researchers at Amsterdam UMC and other institutes, plus possible teaching contributions at Amsterdam UMC or the University of Amsterdam.

Requirements include a PhD in computational science or a related field, prior postdoctoral experience, experience with agent-based modelling and differential equations, strong programming skills in Julia or Python, and good communication and scientific writing skills. Experience with R, immunology, and single-cell omics is considered an advantage.

This is a two-year postdoctoral position with an initial 12-month contract and intention to extend. Salary is €3,724–€5,867 gross per month for full-time employment, plus an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and additional employment benefits. The vacancy is based at Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands.

Deadline: 26 October 2026. Applications are reviewed continuously, so early submission is recommended. For questions, contact prof. dr. Antoine van Kampen at [email protected].
