About this position
Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is advertising a Postdoctoral researcher in Human Genetics focused on developing computational methods for multimodal data integration, multiscale modelling, and genomic data analysis in neuropsychiatric disorders.
The project sits within iCNS (Institute for Chemical Neuroscience), an interdisciplinary consortium where machine learning, computational biology, neuroscience, chemistry, psychiatry, and data science come together. The research aims to identify molecular signatures and candidate targets by integrating clinical records, genetic and neuropathological data, and multimodal molecular measurements such as bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, long- and short-read sequencing, and proteomics.
Possible directions include learning joint representations across heterogeneous datasets, linking bulk/clinical data with single-cell measurements, and integrating observational single-cell atlases with in vitro perturbation data. The team also works with public resources such as psychENCODE, single-cell brain atlases, and large-scale perturbation screens.
You will join the group led by Dr Ahmed Mahfouz at LUMC, in collaboration with Dr Inge Holtman (UMCG) and other iCNS partners. The department is led by Prof. Dr Silvère van der Maarel. The role is ideal for candidates with a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biomedical sciences, statistics, or a related quantitative field, plus strong Python/R, machine learning/deep learning, and HPC experience. Experience with single-cell and spatial genomics is preferred.
The position is a paid postdoctoral employment role, with a gross monthly salary of €3,724 to €5,867 (scale 10), plus standard LUMC benefits. It is initially offered for one year with the possibility of extension up to three years.
Apply through the LUMC vacancy page. The post says there are 28 days left to apply. Include the names and contact details of two references with your application.
