About this position
Postdoc opening in evolutionary genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, and microbial genomics focused on Klebsiella pneumoniae temperate phages and phage-host coevolution.
The project is based in the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, with close collaboration with the University of Wrocław and the Zuzanna Drulis-Kawa phage biology group. The research asks why some prophages carry enzymes that degrade the bacterial capsule while others carry enzymes that modify it, and how these differences shape phage host range.
You will join a dry-lab team working with large-scale comparative genomics, phylogenetics, structural bioinformatics, GWAS-based capsule-phage association analyses, and AlphaFold3 structural annotation. There is also scope to contribute to emerging AI approaches for predicting phage host range from genomic data.
Eligibility highlights: PhD obtained within the last 7 years in bioinformatics, computational biology, or evolutionary/microbial genomics; strong Python and/or R skills; experience with comparative genomics and/or phylogenetics; interest in microbial evolution and host-pathogen interactions.
