About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the BODIES group, Department of Biomechanical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
This is a fully funded, full-time postdoctoral position (30 months) focused on Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) shorts for gait rehabilitation after stroke. The project sits inside the multidisciplinary “Care is coming home!” program, involving TU Delft, University of Twente, hospitals, a rehabilitation centre, companies, and patient organisations.
The research combines biomedical engineering, biomechanical engineering, wearable sensors / IMU data, human motion analysis, neuromuscular control, and algorithm development. The postdoc will retrain an IMU-based gait-detection algorithm using stroke-patient data, test and optimize the FES shorts with patients, work with physical therapists and clinicians, develop adaptable stimulation control, and run a pilot home-testing study.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Movement Science, Robotics, or a related field; strong programming skills (preferably Python); experience with wearable-sensor data and motion analysis; and the ability to collaborate closely with patients and clinical partners. English fluency is required, and Dutch is a plus.
Funding includes a Dutch university salary scale (CAO NU scale 10, depending on experience), 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, pension, and at least 29 holidays per year.
Deadline: 7 September 2026. Apply online with a CV and cover letter via the application button.
