About this position

Postdoc opportunity in Gravitational Wave Detector Instrumentation at Leibniz University Hannover, Institute for Gravitational Physics.

This fixed-term research position (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100%) is part of the project “Developing a modular suspension platform interferometer for the Einstein Telescope”. The work focuses on designing and validating an ultra-sensitive interferometric sensor to sense and control motion between seismically isolated platforms for the next generation Einstein Telescope gravitational wave detector.

The research will be carried out at the 10m Prototype Facility, jointly operated by Leibniz University Hannover and the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics. The project builds on pioneering work in the group and aims to mature a design for an inter-platform sensor ready for installation in the Einstein Telescope context.

Research interests / keywords: gravitational wave detector instrumentation, interferometry, optics, mechanics, optical and mechanical simulations, precision sensing, prototype development, Einstein Telescope collaboration.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a completed university degree in physics, optical engineering, or a comparable field. A doctorate and strong experience in gravitational wave detector instrumentation are preferred. The post also asks for excellent understanding of optics, interferometry and mechanics, strong laboratory and simulation skills, very good English, strong communication and organizational skills, initiative, and experience supervising students. Prior involvement with the Einstein Telescope or other international gravitational-wave collaborations is desirable.

Funding / contract: 3-year fixed-term postdoc position, full-time, paid at TV-L E13 (100%).
