About this position

Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH is advertising a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Climate and Energy Research – Energy Systems Engineering (ICE-1) in Jülich, Germany.

The role focuses on modelling, simulation, and analysis of integrated power, gas, and hydrogen systems, with particular attention to scenario development for European energy infrastructures. The successful candidate will work on cross-sectoral simulation frameworks to study interactions between electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen networks under future energy transition scenarios.

Research topics include power systems, gas networks, multi-energy systems, scenario modelling, network simulation, and scientific software development. The post also involves extending simulation tools such as GasNetSim, publishing results, presenting at conferences, collaborating with researchers, and supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s students.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. The post seeks candidates with a background in numerical methods, mathematical modelling, and network simulation or analysis, plus strong programming skills in Python (with C/C++ as an advantage). A good understanding of power systems, gas networks, or coupled multi-energy systems is expected. Very good English is required at B2 CEFR level or above; German is not mandatory.

The position is fixed-term for 2 years with the possibility of long-term employment. It is classified at EG 13 TVöD-Bund and includes standard benefits such as vacation, flexible working arrangements, pension contributions, and a year-end bonus.

How to apply: submit your application through the online application portal. The post provides an application information page, FAQ, and a contact email for queries.

Deadline: 2050-01-01.
