About this position

TU Delft is advertising a fully funded postdoctoral position in markerless motion capture, biomechanical engineering, and neurological rehabilitation. The project focuses on the clinical validation of a single-camera markerless motion capture system for assessment and long-term home monitoring of motor impairments in stroke and Parkinson's disease patients.

The position is based at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, within the multidisciplinary “Care is coming home!” consortium. The work includes lab-based validation against gold-standard 3D marker-based motion capture and musculoskeletal models, followed by measurements in patients’ homes and collaboration with clinical partners, patients, caregivers, and the company Model Health in Leuven, Belgium.

Research tasks include evaluating the accuracy and biomechanical plausibility of markerless outcome measures, performing sensitivity analyses, comparing markerless and marker-based estimates, generating synthetic movement data from musculoskeletal simulations, and contributing to clinician-facing visualizations with privacy-by-design protection. The project aims to determine when markerless motion capture is accurate, meaningful, and acceptable for home-based monitoring and rehabilitation.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Human Movement Sciences, or a related engineering discipline; experience with OpenSim, AnyBody, Vicon, Qualisys, force plates, and programming in Python and/or MATLAB; experience with markerless or video-based pose estimation is a plus. Strong communication skills, fluency in English, and willingness to travel to clinical sites and patients’ homes are required. Dutch is strongly preferred.

Funding and contract: full-time postdoc for one year with possible extension of up to two additional years; salary range €3706–€5760 per month under the Dutch university collective agreement.

Application deadline: 13 November 2026. Apply online through the TU Delft application button and upload a CV and cover letter.

What's required

A PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Human Movement Sciences, or a related engineering discipline is required. Applicants should have hands-on experience with musculoskeletal modelling (e.g. OpenSim, AnyBody), marker-based 3D motion capture (e.g. Vicon, Qualisys), and force plates, plus strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB. Experience with markerless or video-based pose estimation is a plus. Experience with patient populations, especially stroke or Parkinson's disease, is preferred. Strong communication, organization, independence, fluency in English, and willingness to travel to Leuven, clinical sites, and patients' homes are required; Dutch is strongly preferred and Moroccan Arabic or Turkish is an additional advantage.

How to apply

Apply online via the application button by 13 November 2026 and upload a CV and cover letter. If shortlisted, provide contact details for at least two referees with consent. Applications are only accepted through the website application button.
