About this position

Postdoctoral researcher opportunity in myelin imaging, myelin remodeling, neuroscience, and white matter disease at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience in Amsterdam, in collaboration with the Amsterdam Leukodystrophy Center at Amsterdam UMC.

The project focuses on oligodendrocyte myelin sheaths in brain tissue, studying how myelin swelling, damage, loss, and repair occur in health and disease. Using advanced microscopy, live tissue imaging, and related functional approaches, the postdoc will investigate the biophysical and molecular mechanisms underlying myelin remodeling. Disease-relevant mouse models of leukodystrophies provide a translational setting, and the work also connects to broader disorders such as multiple sclerosis.

This is a postdoc opening requiring a PhD in neuroscience or a related field. Strong experience with single-cell electrophysiology and/or live functional imaging from neurons or glia is expected, along with substantial brain-tissue preparation experience, preferably in mouse models. The role also values publication experience, excellent English, teamwork, communication skills, and prior supervision of master’s/PhD students. Animal experimentation certification and programming skills (Python, MATLAB, R) are advantageous.

The position is full-time (38 hours/week) and initially offered for 1 year, with the possibility of a 2-year extension. Salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month, plus standard employment benefits. Deadline: 1 October 2026.
