About this position

We’re hiring a 3-year postdoc in Physical Oceanography at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project will investigate the role of fine-scale ocean processes in vertical heat transport across the Southern Ocean. The research will use new satellite observations to estimate fine-scale vertical velocity and heat transport, then validate the results with gliders, uncrewed surface vehicles, and ship-based data. A key part of the work is quantifying uncertainties and studying how transport varies regionally, seasonally, and year-to-year, including links to storms, warming, and climate modes.

The postdoc is part of the Polar Gliders Research Group and connects to international collaboration through projects such as EU SYNCHRONY. There is also a possible opportunity to join the Pulse of the Weddell Sea expedition in late 2027 and gain field experience piloting Seagliders, Wave Gliders, and X-Spar buoys.

Eligibility highlights: background relevant to physical oceanography, remote sensing, ocean observations, and quantitative analysis. The post is full time and starts early to mid 2027.

Application deadline: 29 October 2026.
