About this position
Postdoc opportunity in polymer and colloid characterization at HIPOLE Jena (Helmholtz-Institute for Polymers in Energy Applications Jena), part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres.
The project focuses on the characterization of novel materials for energy storage systems, including redox flow batteries, using hydrodynamic methods and light scattering. The role also includes conceptual development of characterization methods in solution, contributing to the institute’s needs, and supporting the supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD theses.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, and a PhD in macromolecular chemistry, physical chemistry of polymers, engineering, or a related area. Strong understanding of physical principles, basic analytical techniques, good computer skills, and very good English communication and presentation skills are required. Experience in polymer chemistry/polymer physics, programming, advanced software, publication output, and external funding is advantageous.
The position is a fixed-term postdoctoral contract for 24 months, with possible extension and a permanent position. Location is Jena, Germany. Closing date: 30 September 2026.

What's required
