This postdoc sits in Daniel Weber’s group in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, in close collaboration with Martin Rahm’s computational group. The project explores stacked oxocarbon-ring salts with unpaired electrons and aims to control composition, oxidation state, and synthesis route to grow single crystals and answer questions about itinerant vs localized electrons, one-dimensional metallic behavior, and possible superconductivity.
Research activities include air- and moisture-sensitive synthesis, crystal growth of inorganic molecular solids, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder diffraction, variable-temperature diffraction, total scattering, electron transport, magnetometry, spectroscopy, and dissemination of results at conferences. The environment includes glovebox and Schlenk-line chemistry, air-free PXRD, single-crystal diffraction, TGA-DSC, Raman/IR, and access to collaborators for EPR, magnetometry, transport, and solid-state NMR.
Eligibility: PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Physics by the time of the employment decision. Strong practical experience with new compound synthesis, gloveboxes, Schlenk lines, and diffraction is expected. Experience with molecular conductors, radical or charge-transfer salts, oxocarbon chemistry, synchrotron/neutron work, and advanced characterization is highly valued. Excellent English communication skills are required.

What's required
