About this position
Postdoctoral researcher position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, in the Hultgren Laboratory, Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
The project focuses on transmission electron microscopy for sustainable metals, especially microstructural characterization of metallic and composite materials relevant to electrification, hydrogen-tolerant alloys, and recycled-material design. The role is linked to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE) and KTH’s investment in a new high-throughput STEM platform with in-situ and operando capabilities, including laser heating, straining, reaction chambers, and automated crystallographic orientation mapping (ACOM).
The postdoc will contribute to method development and applied materials science, aiming to improve understanding of structure-property relationships, microstructure evolution, and mechanical properties in sustainable metallic materials. The environment offers collaboration with academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally, within a strong research setting in materials characterization and metallurgy.
Eligibility requires a doctoral degree or equivalent in materials science, materials physics, materials characterization, or a closely related area. Applicants should have demonstrated TEM experience on metallic materials, including specimen preparation, acquisition, and analysis, and excellent English communication skills. Strong initiative, analytical ability, responsibility, and collaboration skills are important. Preferred merits include a recent PhD (within three years), experience with ACOM and in-situ experiments, complementary techniques such as FIB-SEM or APT, and a background in physical metallurgy and solid-state phase transformations.
