About this position
The Hultgren Laboratory at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in atom probe tomography (APT) for sustainable metals. The successful candidate will join a materials characterization team at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and contribute to research that advances the sustainability of metallic materials.
The project uses an EIKOS-UV atom probe instrument (laser and voltage pulse modes) and is embedded in research on sustainable metallic and composite materials. Current themes include hydrogen-tolerant alloys for fossil-free energy systems, metallic materials for the electrification of the automotive industry, alloy design compatible with high recycled-material content, and nanoscale precipitation and trace element behavior across different material systems.
The postdoc will conduct APT characterization and data analysis as a central part of individual and collaborative projects, and will also use complementary methods to establish process–structure–property relationships in metallic materials. The role includes contributing to the development of novel alloys and processing routes through advanced microstructural understanding, collaborating with academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally, and supporting student supervision, publications, and conference dissemination.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in materials science, materials physics, materials characterization, or a closely related area. Strong demonstrated experience in APT of metallic materials is required, together with excellent English communication skills. Preferred background includes physical metallurgy, solid-state phase transformations, and complementary techniques such as FIB-SEM and TEM. Personal qualities such as initiative, analytical ability, collaboration, leadership, and responsibility are important.
