About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the Division of Materials and Manufacture, Department of Mechanical Engineering, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The project focuses on the synthesis and development of advanced battery binders and solid-state electrolytes for next-generation energy storage systems. The work is embedded in a battery group with strong connections to materials research, sustainable manufacturing, and industry-relevant innovation.
Research topics include novel binder synthesis, sustainable binder systems, solid-state electrolyte synthesis, and battery fabrication. The project aims to improve ionic conductivity, safety, cycle life, electrochemical performance, and long-term stability while addressing challenges such as dendrite formation and electrolyte degradation in lithium-ion batteries.
The position is a two-year full-time temporary employment with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, or an equivalent foreign degree by the employment decision date. Strong English communication skills and relevant synthesis experience are required, and teaching experience is viewed positively. Experience in solid-state electrolyte batteries and a recent PhD are especially meritorious.
Chalmers offers an international and collaborative working environment, employee benefits, and a research setting focused on sustainable technologies. The university also supports inclusion and equality initiatives and offers Swedish courses for international staff.
