About this position

This postdoctoral position at Chalmers University of Technology offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research in the synthesis of binder and solid-state electrolyte for next-generation batteries. The role is based in the Division of Materials and Manufacture within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, a vibrant and international team dedicated to advancing materials and production technologies for a sustainable future. The research project aims to develop advanced battery binders and solid-state electrolytes, focusing on improving electrode stability, mechanical strength, and cycling performance. Solid-state electrolytes are being explored as safer alternatives to liquid electrolytes, offering higher thermal stability, reduced leakage risks, and enhanced energy density.

As a postdoc, you will be involved in the synthesis of novel binder systems and the development of sustainable binder solutions, as well as the synthesis and fabrication of solid-state electrolytes for batteries. The project addresses key challenges in lithium-ion batteries, such as dendrite formation, electrolyte degradation, and limited long-term stability, by leveraging innovative materials and synthesis methods to improve ionic conductivity, battery safety, cycle life, and electrochemical performance.

The position is a full-time, temporary employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Chalmers University of Technology provides a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with comprehensive employee benefits, including generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic synthesis, or an equivalent foreign degree by the time of employment decision. Experience in the synthesis of binder and solid-state electrolyte is mandatory, and teaching experience as well as research potential are expected. Experience in solid-state electrolyte battery is advantageous. Physical presence in Gothenburg is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

To apply, submit your application via the online application form, including your CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Applications must be written in English and submitted as PDF files. The deadline for applications is June 14, 2026. For further information, contact Associate Professor Jinhua Sun at [email protected].

Chalmers University of Technology is renowned for its research and education in technology and natural sciences, fostering scientific excellence and innovative solutions for a sustainable world. Join us in shaping the future of energy storage and materials science.
