About this position

Postdoc opportunity in theoretical physics at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw. This position is part of the QUANTERA 2025 QUASIMODO research project, focused on developing the theory of topological spin and spin squeezing using synthetic dimensions in multicomponent ultra-cold atomic systems.

The successful candidate will work on theoretical studies of ultra-cold atomic gases, with emphasis on quantum gases, ultra-cold atoms in optical lattices, and topological materials-related concepts. The post is aimed at an experienced researcher profile (R2) and is a fixed-term full-time appointment for 24 months starting 1 February 2027.

Funding: the post is funded at approximately 11,700 PLN gross per month before taxes and applicable social security contributions, with a full employer cost of 14,166 PLN per month from the project (about 170,000 PLN per year).

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in physics, or have a PhD thesis submitted, with the doctorate obtained no earlier than 12 years before 1 January 2026 under NCN rules. The team seeks a strong theoretical background, preferably in ultra-cold atoms and quantum optics, demonstrated publication record, experience in analytical and numerical modelling, teamwork skills, independence, and fluent spoken and written English.

Application deadline: 30 November 2026, 23:59 Europe/Warsaw. Applications submitted later will not be considered.

How to apply: email the full application package to [email protected] with the Job ID in the subject line. Required materials include a CV, motivation letter, list of publications, contact details for at least two referees, and the signed personal-data consent form.
