About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on the efficient simulation of noisy quantum circuits. The successful candidate will join the QuantumStack project, a five-year initiative funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, and work within the Division of Computer Networks and Systems at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The project is closely integrated with the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a major Swedish initiative aiming to build a 100-qubit superconducting quantum computer and advance quantum technology research.
The postdoc will co-design and implement efficient, realistic simulation algorithms for noisy quantum circuits, with a particular emphasis on superconducting hardware. Responsibilities include developing and optimizing simulation algorithms for quantum error correction and mid-circuit operations, integrating simulations with a 25-qubit chip, and collaborating with physicists and engineers to achieve scalable, high-fidelity quantum simulations. The work will require expertise in low-level code optimization (e.g., SIMD, GPU, FPGA), performance engineering, and a solid understanding of quantum simulation trade-offs.
The position offers the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with experts in quantum physics, computer science, engineering, and materials science. The research group is active in national and EU projects, and the division is recognized for its excellence in computer architecture and high-performance computing. Chalmers provides a supportive and inspiring work environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a strong commitment to equality and diversity.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field, completed before the start of employment. Required skills include proficiency in Python and C/C++, knowledge of GPU programming, and experience in application performance profiling. Experience in quantum computing and FPGA development is desirable. Excellent English communication skills are essential.
Funding: The position is fully funded for two years as a full-time temporary employment, with salary and benefits according to Chalmers regulations.
Application: Apply online via the Chalmers vacancy website. The application deadline is March 1, 2026, but applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the position may be filled earlier. For further information, contact Prof. Pedro Trancoso ([email protected]) or Assoc. Prof. Mats Granath ([email protected]).
