About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its Materials Science, Energy, and Nano-engineering (MSN) department, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Mineral Processing, Battery Materials, and Sustainable Process Engineering. The position is based in Benguerir, Morocco, and sits within a multidisciplinary research program focused on optimizing natural graphite for Li-ion battery applications, developing sustainable purification technologies, and advancing circular water management in mineral processing.

The successful candidate will work across materials science, chemical engineering, electrochemistry, hydrometallurgy, environmental engineering, and related process optimization areas. Responsibilities include designing and setting up lab- and pilot-scale experiments, performing characterization using XRD, Raman, SEM-EDS, TGA, PSD, BET, and ICP, applying Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical optimization, fabricating and testing graphite anodes, and analyzing the links between purification conditions, structure, and electrochemical performance. The role also includes side research on biomass-derived biochar, water purification, wastewater analysis, reagent/by-product recovery, and scalable industrial solutions.

Requirements: a PhD in Materials Science, Chemical or Process Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a closely related field. Strong experience with materials/process modeling, thermochemical systems, statistical design, data analysis, carbon materials, inorganic solids, and characterization/electrochemical techniques is expected. Experience in hydrometallurgical or thermochemical processes, carbon purification, mineral processing, pilot-scale work, and industrial R&D is highly desirable.

Funding: the post is advertised as a postdoctoral researcher job; no stipend or salary details are provided in the listing excerpt.

Deadline: 31 October 2026.

Applications should be submitted via the online job portal on the Times Higher Education listing. Prepare your CV and supporting documents, then complete the application form before the closing date.
