About this position
Argonne National Laboratory is advertising a Postdoctoral Appointee position at HPCAT in Lemont, Illinois, focused on high-pressure melts, the solid-melt transition, and melt-liquid structure. The project uses advanced synchrotron x-ray capabilities at the APS-Upgrade and HPCAT, including BCDI, XPCS, nano-beam methods, time-resolved microscopy, PDF, 3D imaging, and phase-contrast imaging.
The postdoc will work with HPCAT staff and partners across national laboratories and academic institutions, contributing to research on transition metals and potentially expanding to high entropy alloys, advanced manufactured materials, superconductors, and other candidate materials. The role also encourages development of AI/ML and data-processing/software capabilities to support the research program.
Eligibility: recent or soon-to-be completed PhD (within 0-5 years) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Geosciences, or Engineering. Experience with synchrotron x-ray techniques is strongly desired; a high-pressure background is helpful but not required.
Funding: full-time postdoctoral appointment with an expected salary range of $72,879–$121,465, plus benefits. The appointment is a two-year fixed-term role with possible extension or conversion to a full-time position.
How to apply: submit your CV and a 3-page summary of relevant experience and proposed scientific ideas through the Argonne Careers application page. Application review begins June 08 and continues until the position is filled.
