About this position
Argonne National Laboratory is recruiting a Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Molecular Environmental Science and Biogeochemical Process Group in the Biosciences Division. The project sits at the intersection of Environmental Science, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, with a strong emphasis on x-ray absorption spectroscopy, biogeochemistry, soil science, and wetland/terrestrial-aquatic systems.
The successful candidate will apply synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy to study mechanisms governing biogeochemical transformations in wetland systems. The work includes laboratory microcosm and column experiments, field sampling, synchrotron experiments at DOE national user facilities, and data analysis. Research themes include coupled interactions among waters, soils, and plants; fluxes and microbial transformations of carbon, nutrients, critical materials, and redox-active elements such as Fe and S; and multi-institution projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Eligibility highlights: a recently completed PhD within the last 0–5 years; strong knowledge of synchrotron x-ray absorption spectroscopy; experience with x-ray optics, beamline setup, and data analysis; and preferably a background in biogeochemical or soil-based systems (catalysis or redox chemistry backgrounds may also be considered). Strong communication, teamwork, independent work, organization, and attention to detail are expected.
Funding: this is a full-time postdoctoral role with an expected salary range of $72,879–$121,465 plus comprehensive benefits. The position is supported by DOE-related funding.
Location: Lemont, Illinois, United States, at Argonne National Laboratory.
How to apply: submit an application through the Argonne Workday careers portal using the provided link. Review the background check and government access authorization notes before applying.
