The Boyce Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry at Duke University is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a newly funded NINDS R01 project. The project investigates how O-GlcNAc glycosylation regulates KLHL-family E3 ubiquitin ligases (including gigaxonin and KLHL3) and their substrates (neurofilaments and WNK kinases) in neuronal proteostasis, cytoskeletal dynamics, and ferroptotic cell death.
This is a highly interdisciplinary opportunity spanning biochemistry, chemical biology, cell signaling, glycobiology, live-cell imaging, cellular neurobiology, and organotypic brain slice models. The work is aimed at understanding mechanistic links between intracellular glycosylation and neurodegeneration. The exact project portfolio can be adjusted to fit the postdoc’s background, interests, and career goals.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral training in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, or a related field. Experience in cellular neurobiology and/or O-GlcNAc signaling or glycobiology is strongly preferred, though not strictly required. The lab also welcomes strong candidates from adjacent areas who are eager to learn glycobiology approaches.
The position is on-site in Durham, North Carolina, United States.
