About this position
Postdoctoral Associate / Postdoctoral Fellow in Biomedical Engineering, Organoid Culture, Immunology, and Gastroenterology at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in collaboration with Connecticut Children's Medical Hospital.
This opening is for the Jalili Lab / Connecticut Children's GI collaboration in Farmington, Connecticut, with research focused on building an in vitro gastrointestinal host immune-microbiome culture model for disease modeling and therapeutic development. The project uses organoid engineering, organ-on-a-chip platforms, microfluidics, microbiome science, single-cell transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics, and mouse- and patient-derived cells/organoids.
The research is centered on intestinal inflammatory conditions including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, and eosinophilic esophagitis. The postdoc will help lead a multidisciplinary project involving clinicians and investigators at JAX, Connecticut Children's, and UConn Health.
Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, microbiology, immunology, or a related field; strong background in cell and tissue engineering; training in bioengineering, immunoengineering, and cell biology; preferred experience in gastroenterology research, in vivo models, bacterial cultures, host-microbiome interactions, and multi-omics; at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication; excellent writing and communication skills.
Funding: JAX lists a postdoc salary scale from $65,589 (Year 0-1) up to $75,569 (Year 5-6), based on years of experience.
How to apply: Prepare a cover letter, a one-page personal statement of scientific interests and career goals, and a current CV with publications plus contact information for three references. Submit all three components; incomplete applications will not be considered.
Institutional context: The Jackson Laboratory is an independent nonprofit biomedical research institution with locations in the United States and internationally. The clinical partner is Connecticut Children's Division of Digestive Diseases, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
