About this position

Prof. Suo Yang at the University of Minnesota is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate in CFD modeling of multiphase reacting flows. The project focuses on building a hierarchical multi-scale computational framework for coupled fluid, thermal, species, and interfacial transport phenomena.

The research spans micro-scale transport (drift-diffusion-convection, Nernst-Planck, Poisson formulations), meso-scale multiphase dynamics (Eulerian-Lagrangian tracking, phase change, phase equilibrium near active interfaces), and macro-scale optimization (parallelized 3D conjugate heat transfer models, channel geometry evaluation, and flow distribution manifold optimization).

Relevant study areas include Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science & Engineering, Computer Science, and related CFD-heavy disciplines. The post emphasizes solver development, numerical methods for stiff PDEs, multiphase reacting flows, transport/chemistry coupling, and high-performance parallel computing.

Required qualifications include a PhD, experience with advanced CFD solver development, multiphase flow modeling, reacting-flow chemistry/transport source terms, strong programming skills (C++, Java, Fortran 90, Python, MATLAB), MPI, and open-source CFD customization (e.g., OpenFOAM, AMReX). A strong publication record and ability to supervise student projects are also requested. Desirable experience includes electro-hydrodynamics, non-equilibrium transport, diffuse-charge dynamics, 3D CHT, ML/AI, ROM, DA, and GPU programming.

International applications are welcome. The closing date is 2026-12-31. To apply, send a CV, transcripts, research statement, three selected publications, and reference contacts to [email protected].
