About this position
Villanova University’s Center for Energy ES2 in the Mechanical Engineering Department is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a full-time, 12-month appointment in the United States.
The position focuses on heat transfer, thermal management, two-phase flow, flow boiling, refrigerants, and data center cooling. The research team is developing advanced liquid cooling systems for high-density data centers, including microchannel boiling, complex porous media, and direct-to-chip cooling from chip to rack. The work is supported by the NSF ES2 Industry/University Cooperative Research Center and involves collaboration with major industry partners.
The postdoctoral scholar will conduct experimental and modeling research, design and build apparatus and instrumentation, perform systematic investigations across scales, and develop physics- and AI-based models for optimization and surrogate simulation. The role also includes mentoring doctoral and master’s researchers, participating in weekly meetings, and helping prepare reports and presentations for sponsors.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Engineering or a closely related field; experience with sponsored research project management; mandatory experience in two-phase flow and heat transfer with refrigerants; hardware development and instrumentation experience; and proficiency with ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB, EES, REFPROP, and LabView. Strong communication, organization, and independent working skills are expected. Industry or national lab experience is preferred.
