About this position

Postdoctoral Associate opportunity at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, in the Bennett Lab. This is a research-focused postdoc opening in hematopoietic stem cell biology, developmental biology, and stem cell engineering for regenerative medicine.

The lab studies the developmental emergence of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), with emphasis on HSC specification and maturation in embryonic development. Research themes include how TGF-β/BMP signaling regulates the transition from pre-HSCs to transplantable HSCs, the role of SMAD7 and downstream effectors, and the identification of novel regulators that drive rare pre-hematopoietic intermediates from hemogenic endothelium into fully functional, multi-lineage engraftable HSCs.

The lab uses a multidisciplinary toolkit including mouse genetics, embryo models, transplantation assays, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, clonal barcoding, single-cell genomics, and related quantitative approaches. The successful candidate will plan and execute an independent project, prepare manuscripts, contribute to conference presentations, mentor junior lab members, and participate in a collaborative research environment.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in biological sciences or a related field; at least one first-author publication; strong training in molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, or stem cell biology. Preferred experience includes hematopoiesis, vascular biology, mouse models, lineage tracing, cell sorting, primary cell culture, single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, spatial genomics, lentiviral systems, clonal barcoding, computational biology, or bioinformatics.

Funding: This is a salaried postdoctoral role. JAX lists salary by experience level, starting at $65,589 for Year 0-1 and rising to $75,569 for Year 5-6.

How to apply: Submit a cover letter, CV, and three references. The application link is provided in the posting.

Institution: The Jackson Laboratory is an independent nonprofit biomedical research institution with a major focus on genetics and human disease research.
