About this position

University of Minnesota’s Neuromodulation Research Center (NMRC) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate to study the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease in a progressive preclinical MPTP rhesus macaque model. The project focuses on high-density neural recordings and Neuropixel implantation approaches targeting the basal ganglia, thalamus, and cortex, with analysis of cell population dynamics, oscillatory activity, and connectivity as motor symptoms evolve and respond to treatment.

The role is embedded in a translational, multidisciplinary environment spanning neurology, neurosurgery, biomedical engineering, radiology, and biostatistics. The postdoc will work with large-scale electrophysiological datasets, contribute to experimental and method development, and have opportunities for clinical exposure through the deep brain stimulation and movement disorders research program.

Research keywords: neuroscience, electrophysiology, signal processing, Neuropixel, basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical circuits, Parkinson’s disease, neuromodulation, deep brain stimulation, preclinical primate models.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Neuroscience, BME, ECE, or a related field; strong quantitative and signal-processing background; excellent collaboration skills; publication and conference presentation record. MATLAB/Python and prior electrophysiology/high-density recording experience are preferred.

Funding: salaried postdoctoral appointment with a pay range of $65,480–$79,076 annually plus benefits.

Location: Minneapolis / Twin Cities, Minnesota, United States.

How to apply: Submit the application online via the university job portal, then upload a cover letter and resume. Additional documents may be added later through the My Job Applications page.
