About this position

Rutgers University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Neurosurgery at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences / Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, United States.

The position focuses on translational epilepsy research, especially the network mechanisms of ictogenesis in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). The postdoc will work on quantitative, event-driven intracranial EEG (iEEG) methods to characterize the epileptogenic network and identify network chokepoints involved in seizure initiation. The project combines preclinical optogenetic and intrahippocampal kainic acid (IHKA) mouse models with retrospective human iEEG and therapeutic outcome data.

Research duties include small-animal surgery, multichannel electrophysiology, optogenetic and electrical stimulation, neuromodulation and lesion-based validation, signal processing, computational network analysis, and dissemination of results. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and computational scientists, mentor junior trainees, contribute to manuscripts and grant applications, and develop toward an independent research program.

Eligibility highlights: PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field; ABD candidates may also be considered. Strong quantitative/programming skills in MATLAB, Python, R, or similar tools are required, along with experience in electrophysiology, neural signal analysis, computational neuroscience, or preclinical neuroscience research.

Preferred experience includes intracranial EEG or multichannel animal electrophysiology, epilepsy or seizure dynamics, neuromodulation, small-animal stereotactic surgery, electrode implantation, optogenetics, electrical stimulation, and graph-theoretical or connectivity-based analysis.

Funding and compensation: salary is listed at 20,000 minimum, 90,000 mid-range, and 200,000 maximum, with final offer depending on qualifications and available funds. Rutgers also provides a benefits package for eligible employees.

How to apply: submit an application through the Rutgers posting portal. The direct application link is included in the post.

Location: Piscataway / New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. This is a fully on-site role.
