About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in experimental lung cancer biology, immunology, and interception at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, in the Humam Kadara Laboratory within the Department of Translational Molecular Pathology.
The lab studies the earliest stages of lung cancer development, including the evolution of lung adenocarcinoma from normal lung tissue through premalignancy and invasive cancer. Research themes include injury-induced epithelial plasticity, KRT8-positive alveolar intermediate and progenitor cells, oncogenic KRAS signaling, inflammatory and immune microenvironments, tumor–immune co-evolution, and the role of the host microbiome in lung cancer pathogenesis.
The position is highly experimental and translational, combining human tissues with genetically engineered and carcinogen-associated mouse models, lineage tracing, organoid systems, preclinical intervention studies, and single-cell and spatial profiling technologies. The fellow will lead mechanistic studies on epithelial cell states, environmental or inflammatory injury, oncogenic signaling, and immune-cell niches, with the goal of identifying prevention and interception strategies for early lung cancer.
Eligibility requires a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, molecular or cellular biology, immunology, pulmonary biology, genetics, pathology, microbiology, or a closely related field. Applicants should have strong molecular/cellular biology foundations, hands-on experience with relevant experimental methods, the ability to work independently, and evidence of research productivity. Experience with mouse models, lineage tracing, lung biology, tumor immunology, and preclinical therapeutic studies is especially desirable.
Funding is provided through MD Anderson’s FY26 postdoctoral stipend scale, with compensation ranging from $64,000 to $76,400 depending on relevant postgraduate experience.
