About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Genetics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

The McAllister Laboratory is seeking a creative, independent, and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join research focused on diet, colorectal cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease. The lab studies the interplay among the immune system, microbes, and tumor behavior, with an emphasis on tumor initiation, progression, therapy response, metastasis, and tumor-host ecosystem biology.

The fellow will work on bioinformatic analyses of human gut, oral, and tissue microbiota using 16S rRNA sequencing and whole-genome sequencing (WGS), metabolomic analyses of patient sera, cytokine profiling of clinical specimens, and spatial transcriptomic data analysis. Responsibilities include data quality control, statistical analyses, data visualization, and multi-omics integration in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Training includes learning experimental methods for studying molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic tumorigenesis in mice via spatial transcriptomics and translating findings into patient datasets. The position also offers experience in manuscript writing, fellowship and grant applications, and high-impact publication preparation.

Eligibility requires a PhD. The role is full-time and offers a salary of $64,000 to $76,000 depending on postgraduate experience, plus benefits such as medical, dental, paid time off, retirement, tuition benefits, and educational opportunities.

Location: Houston, Texas, United States. No deadline is stated in the posting.
