About this position

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (Thomas Lab) in Aurora, Colorado, United States.

The project studies how intratumoral bacteria shape the tumor microenvironment in oral squamous cell carcinoma. The postdoc will work on spatial and functional relationships between bacteria and immune cell populations using spatial transcriptomics, orthotopic mouse models, myeloid cell-focused mechanistic studies, and translational profiling of peripheral blood from patients.

This is a funded 4–5 year postdoctoral position supported by an NIH R56, the HNC SPORE, and other research funding. The role includes professional development support such as conference travel, microbiome and bioinformatics training, scientific and grant writing workshops, mentorship, and opportunities to build leadership and mentoring experience.

Applicants should hold a PhD in microbiology, immunology, cancer biology, or a related biomedical sciences field. Preferred experience includes flow cytometry, murine experiments, ELISA, bacterial culture, microbiome methods, spatial transcriptomics interest, and data analysis in R, SAS, or similar tools.
