About this position

NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) is advertising a postdoctoral fellow in medical physics at the Department of Physics, within a research group in medical radiation physics. The project sits at the intersection of medical physics, radiotherapy, radiation biophysics, medical imaging (MRI and PET), and radiation biology, with a strong focus on improving treatment for cancer patients.

The research environment works on more precise and automated methods for radiotherapy, quantitative image-based optimization, and experimental/clinical proton therapy. The group collaborates closely with St. Olavs Hospital and also with other university hospitals and international partners. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute independent research, scientific publishing, and popular science communication, and will also participate in the research group’s activities.

This is a 4-year full-time postdoctoral position. It includes one year of career-enhancing teaching, with teaching duties in TFY4315 Radiation Biophysics and supervision of students at master’s and PhD level. The role also includes training in writing applications for project funding.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must have completed a PhD in medical physics with specialization in experimental or clinical radiation physics, or be close to completion. The doctoral degree must be documented before appointment, and the position must be taken up during 2026. Required skills include scientific publications in radiation physics, strong Norwegian/Scandinavian and English communication skills, teaching experience, and good programming competence. Preferred experience includes conference presentations, student supervision, and collaboration with hospital radiotherapy departments.

Funding and salary: the position is salaried at NOK 633,400 gross per year depending on qualifications and seniority, with standard pension deductions. The appointment is employment-based rather than a scholarship.
