About this position
Research Associate in Bioimaging at Cardiff University, School of Biosciences.
This Wellcome Trust funded Discovery Award project focuses on developing a transformative multiphoton microscopy platform for mucosal tissue mechanobiology. The research aims to measure mucus viscoelasticity by tracking nano-probes with nanoscale precision and to map the 3D structure and composition of living tissues with subcellular resolution and molecular chemical specificity.
The project will apply the technology to healthy and diseased lung tissues, including responses to inflammatory triggers, infections, and drugs. The work sits at the physics-life science interface and connects bioimaging, optical microscopy, and biomedical research on airway remodelling/fibrosis.
Your role will contribute to microscope hardware development and integration, including four-wave mixing imaging, coherent Raman scattering, second harmonic generation, third harmonic generation, and two-photon fluorescence. You will also support data acquisition, analysis, scientific interpretation, publication, and dissemination.
The post is full time and fixed term for 3 years, with salary £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6). Informal enquiries may be directed to Paola Borri at BorriP@cardiff.ac.uk.
Deadline: 31 August 2026.
