About this position
The University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows in Pediatric Psychology for the 2027–2028 academic year at the University of Iowa in the United States.
This postdoctoral opportunity is designed to prepare scientist-practitioners for careers in academic research and clinical practice. Fellows will spend about 70% of their time in clinical services, with additional opportunities for research and structured educational activities.
Applicants may choose one of three tracks: Health Psychology, Neuropsychology, or Behavior Analysis. The Health Psychology track includes work with children and adolescents with conditions such as diabetes, cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic pain. The Neuropsychology track focuses on psychological assessment, learning and attention disorders, and neuropsychological testing with youth with medical conditions such as seizures, cancer, and kidney transplant. The Behavioral track focuses on assessment and treatment of challenging behavior in children with and without developmental disabilities, including self-injury, aggression, tantrums, noncompliance, feeding difficulties, and tics.
The position is housed in the Division of Pediatric Psychology within the Stead Family Children’s Hospital and Department of Pediatrics. The fellowship includes clinical training across outpatient specialty clinics, consultation/liaison opportunities, and intensive behavioral services.
Eligibility requires a PhD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology, completion of an APA/APPIC-approved internship before the start date, and eligibility for a provisional psychology license in Iowa. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required; knowledge of child development and psychological/neuropsychological assessment is preferred.
Funding includes a stipend commensurate with NIH guidelines, plus health benefits, paid vacation and sick leave, and support for national conference attendance.
