About this position

CNRS is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the ERC-funded MOVING project, led by Prof. Véronique BENEÏ at the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie Politique (LAP), based at EHESS, Paris. The project studies the embodied traces and memories of African-originated slavery in diasporic contexts, with a focus on the Colombian Caribbean and the broader themes of anthropology, ethnology, ethnographic methods, arts-based research, and interdisciplinary social science.

The successful candidate will contribute to ethnographic and interdisciplinary methodology, conduct fieldwork in the Colombian Caribbean (Departamento del Magdalena), collaborate with local artists, help organise seminars, summer schools, and conferences, and support the creation of a local “citizen science lab.” The role includes time in Paris for writing, seminars, and academic dissemination, plus international travel.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral position starting 1 February 2027, with an initial two-year period and a possible extension of up to one additional year. The post is funded through the European Research Council under Horizon Europe. No specific stipend or salary amount is given in the post.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in social sciences (preferably anthropology or sociology, or intercultural studies); prior fieldwork experience; familiarity with the history of slavery in South America and African presence in Colombia; working English; French appreciated; arts-based or performance-related experience is desirable; and a collaborative, reflective, empathetic working style.

Deadline: 21 November 2026.
