About this position
University College Cork (UCC), Ireland is advertising a 24-month fixed-term, whole-time postdoctoral position in Applied Mathematics within the School of Mathematical Sciences. The project is titled Adaptive dynamical network solutions to ecological restoration and focuses on network dynamics, multiscale methods, critical transitions, nonlinear phenomena, and the analysis of tipping points and adaptation across multiple timescales.
The postdoc will join a cross-disciplinary team that includes the Applied Mathematics Group and colleagues from the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at UCC. The research aims to develop new mathematical techniques for nonlinear dynamical networks, with applications in restoration ecology and ecosystem modelling, including work related to the Lough Hyne Marine Nature Reserve in West Cork.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment at UCC and abroad, participate in field trips to Lough Hyne, build predictive and data-driven theoretical models for real ecosystems, and contribute to novel restoration protocols and conservation measures.
Eligibility/requirements: strong background or interest in applied mathematics and related areas such as dynamical systems, network modelling, multiscale analysis, nonlinear modelling, or ecological applications. Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may be part of the selection process.
Funding: 24-month postdoctoral appointment with salary €47,273 - €53,925 per annum (IUA PD1 Research Salary Scale).
How to apply: applications must be submitted online via the UCC vacancy portal. Review the full information package and selection criteria at UCC’s recruitment site, then submit before the deadline. Informal inquiries may be directed to Dr. Serhiy Yanchuk or Dr. Sebastian Wieczorek.
Deadline: Friday, 27 November 2026, before 12 noon Irish local time.
