About this position

University of Gothenburg, Sweden, is advertising a postdoctoral position in cancer research with a focus on pancreatic neoplasia and hepatobiliary malignancies. The work is based at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Surgery, within the Sahlgrenska Academy, and will mainly be carried out at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research.

The research group led by Professor Kjetil Soreide works on clinical and translational cancer research, using carefully curated clinical datasets, biobanks, and collaborations with national and international partners. The project emphasizes liquid biopsy (including ctDNA), spatial transcriptomics / spatial omics, patient-derived organoids (PDOs), and other experimental approaches such as DNA, RNA, and protein analyses, 3D models, and exosome characterization.

The successful candidate will plan and conduct clinical and translational studies, perform laboratory experiments and statistical analyses, write manuscripts, and may contribute to project management, funding applications, and supervision of PhD students. The role is suited to researchers with strong independence, initiative, and collaboration skills.

Eligibility: a PhD or equivalent is required before appointment, ideally in clinical research, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, or a related field. Experience in at least one of liquid biopsy, spatial omics, or organoid work is mandatory; experience in multiple areas is an advantage. Strong English writing/speaking skills and a publication record in high-impact journals are expected. Swedish or another Nordic language is a merit.

Employment: fixed-term for 24 months, 100% full-time. Deadline: 2026-11-13. How to apply: submit the application via the University of Gothenburg recruitment portal with a cover letter, CV, publication list, and two references.
