About this position
CEA Grenoble is advertising a postdoctoral position in electrochemistry and sodium-ion batteries focused on the development of a reliable reference electrode sensor for Na-ion cells.
The project aims to design, implement, and validate a novel electrochemical sensor for internal cell measurements, enabling in situ and operando characterization of battery performance, ageing, and degradation mechanisms. The successful candidate will work on cell instrumentation, cycling tests under different conditions, data analysis, and post-mortem examinations such as SEM, EDX, and ICP to correlate sensor outputs with ageing phenomena.
The research will be carried out at the Electrochemical, Post-Mortem & Safety Analysis Laboratory (LAPS) at CEA Grenoble, within the CEA-LITEN environment, and in collaboration with LEDNA (IRAMIS) at CEA Saclay for synthesis of the materials used in the sensor. The team is multidisciplinary, involving electrochemists, physicists, chemists, and optical physicists.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, or a related field; strong experimental battery research background; experience with cell fabrication, testing, and characterization; sodium-ion battery experience is a plus; strong analytical and communication skills in English.
Funding / contract: postdoctoral contract for 18 months. The post is based in Grenoble, France, with a start date of 01/10/2026 (as stated in the job page) and the social post also mentions September 2026.
How to apply: prepare a cover letter and a detailed CV with publications, then apply via the linked CEA application page.
