About this position

University of Vienna is advertising a postdoctoral position in the Faculty of Psychology for research at the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology and the Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Unit (SCAN-Unit) led by Prof. Claus Lamm.

The position focuses on environmental neuroscience, with particular interest in how nature exposure impacts the brain, mind, affect, cognition, behavior, resilience, and potentially climate-related negative effects. The lab works broadly in social cognitive neuroscience, including empathy, prosocial behavior, clinical samples, and comparative aspects across the lifespan and in non-human animals.

Applicants should have a strong background in neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience methods, with preference for experience in pain and stress resilience research. The role includes programming human-participant experiments, analyzing complex multimodal datasets, and contributing to behavioral, survey, and meta-analytic work. Strong skills in Matlab, R, Python and academic writing are emphasized.

Eligibility highlights include a completed PhD or Diploma in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, or a related field, excellent English, and good German (C1) for teaching and collaboration with clinical populations. Teaching, supervision, science communication, administration, and third-mission activities are part of the role.

This is a full-time, fixed-term 6-year postdoc position. The salary is EUR 5,014.30 gross per month paid 14 times per year, with possible increases based on prior experience. Flexible working arrangements may be available by agreement.

Deadline: 2026-09-20. How to apply: submit a CV/letter of intent, publication list, 1-page research summary, doctoral degree, and referee contacts via the university job portal.
