About this position
The University of Vienna is advertising a postdoctoral University Assistant position in the Faculty of Life Sciences, within the Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology, in the research group of Prof. Narly Golestani.
This opportunity is centered on cognitive neuroscience, with a strong emphasis on language, multilingualism, spatial cognition, entorhinal cortex-based spatial grids, and cognitive maps. The role involves active participation in research, teaching, and administration, plus developing an independent research profile, contributing to research projects, publishing and presenting internationally, and supervising students.
Applicants should have completed a PhD in Biology (or Natural Sciences/Life Sciences), with a dissertation related to brain function and structure, ideally in relation to multilingualism and memory. A background in biomedical engineering is preferred/ideal, and the post requires advanced experience with fMRI and structural MRI analysis, including grid-like responses in the entorhinal cortex, resting-state connectivity, and neuroimaging pipelines such as SPM-Toolbox, FSL, Freesurfer, fMRIPrep, and CONN-Toolbox. Coding skills in Python, MATLAB, R, and Linux/Bash are also required.
Language requirements include very good English and German skills, with French mentioned as a plus. The position is a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2029, with a gross salary of EUR 5,014.30 per month on a full-time basis (14 times per year). Flexible working hours and possible remote/hybrid or part-time arrangements are mentioned.
Application deadline: 23 October 2026.
How to apply: Submit a motivation letter with a summary of research interests and the contact details of three references, a scientific CV with publication list, and proof of completed doctoral studies via the University of Vienna application portal.
