Postdoctoral Position in Medical Robotics and Image-Guided Tumour Targeting at the Acoustic Robotics Systems Lab, ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research, University of Bern.

This opportunity focuses on developing a robot-assisted, image-guided ultrasound platform for the localized treatment of bladder tumours. The project aims to support precise, minimally invasive, organ-preserving therapy that may help patients avoid or delay radical cystectomy while protecting healthy tissue.

The successful postdoctoral researcher will lead work on robotic-arm programming and system integration, robot calibration, image-to-robot registration, trajectory planning, autonomous scanning, integration of endoscopic and ultrasound imaging, closed-loop control, safety monitoring, and validation in phantoms, ex vivo tissue, and preclinical models.

The project is conducted in close collaboration with Beat Roth and Ali Hashemi Gheinani at the University Clinic for Urology, Bern University Hospital. The post is best suited to candidates with a PhD in robotics, control engineering, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
