About this position

Postdoctoral Position in Social and Experimental Psychology at the University of Strasbourg, Faculty of Psychology, within the Laboratoire de Psychologie des Cognitions (LPC-EA 4440).

This 12-month full-time postdoctoral appointment is part of the IdEx 2026 Research Support Fund. The project, “Ageism and Virtual Reality: Study of Intergenerational Dynamics,” explores ageism, intergroup relations, and spontaneous avoidance behavior in a controlled virtual environment. The research focuses on how young adults and older adults behave toward avatars perceived as young, older, or neutral, using experimental tasks and complementary measures of ageist stereotypes and prejudices.

The work is based in Strasbourg, France, with data collection carried out at the ICube laboratory (UMR 7357). The successful candidate will recruit participants, collect experimental data, perform statistical analyses, contribute to dissemination activities such as articles and presentations, and take part in laboratory life. The position is closely connected to the LPC’s research theme on social judgment and inequalities.

Eligibility highlights: candidates must hold a PhD in experimental psychology, ideally in social and/or cognitive psychology, with the thesis defended within the last three years. Strong knowledge of intergroup relations is required; familiarity with ageism, embodied cognition, virtual reality, and approach/avoidance behavior concepts is advantageous. Experience with in-person experimental studies and quantitative analysis, especially mixed-methods models, is expected.

Supervision and contacts: the project is led by Valérian Boudjemadi (Associate Professor – HDR), with laboratory leadership by Bruno Chauvin (Professor of Social and Differential Psychology). Application queries can be directed to [email protected].

Application deadline: 19 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Paris). Expected start date: between 15 January 2027 and 1 March 2027, to be discussed with candidates.
