About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, in the Woolston Lab.
This postdoctoral opening sits at the intersection of anaerobic microbiology, enzyme biochemistry, and natural products discovery. The project is supported by an NIH grant and focuses on unlocking the biosynthetic potential of Clostridial bacteria, including the biochemical characterization of novel B12-rSAM enzymes fused to NRPS adenylation domains and the discovery of new antimicrobials from cellulolytic Clostridia.
The successful candidate will lead independent research, develop assays, design experiments, generate and analyze data, and communicate results through publications, presentations, and reports. The role also includes mentoring junior lab members and contributing to a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field; publication record in peer-reviewed journals; experience with natural products biosynthesis or oxygen-sensitive enzyme purification/characterization; bacterial genetics skills including cloning, genome editing, CRISPR, and transposon mutagenesis; anaerobic microbiology experience; and bioinformatics skills in genome mining and biosynthetic gene cluster analysis.
Funding: NIH-funded postdoctoral position with an expected salary range of $60,315.00–$85,192.50 plus benefits.
How to apply: Use the Northeastern Workday application portal and submit a resume. The posting does not list a deadline.
