About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Genetics, working with Dr Felipe Karam Teixeira on germline differentiation and oogenesis in the Drosophila female germline.
The project investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive developmental switches required for oocyte formation, with a focus on how transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational, and chromatin-associated mechanisms coordinate differentiation in vivo. The research environment combines high-throughput molecular and genomic approaches, including short-read and long-read sequencing, computational analysis, developmental biology, advanced microscopy, and Drosophila genetics.
Possible methods include CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, tissue-specific RNA interference, transgenesis, transcriptomic and epigenomic profiling, immunofluorescence, single-molecule RNA imaging, and quantitative confocal microscopy. The group’s recent work mapped transcriptional and translational changes during germline stem cell differentiation, and the new postdoc will build on this foundation with scope to shape the project direction and develop an independent profile.
Eligibility: applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, biochemistry, genomics, or a related field. Experience in germline, stem cell, or developmental biology is welcome. Strong candidates with RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag, Hi-C, IF, smFISH, or HCR experience are especially encouraged; Drosophila genetics is helpful but not required.
Funding and duration: the post is funded for three years in the first instance, with a salary of £37,694-£46,049. The preferred start date is January/February 2027, with some flexibility.
Application: apply online through the University of Cambridge recruitment system and quote reference PC51215. Informal enquiries may be sent to [email protected]. Closing date: 8 November 2026.
