About this position

The DeLTA Lab at Northeastern University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in physics, materials science, and electrical engineering related to quantum materials, photonic cavities, and ultrafast transport.

Led by Professor Alberto de la Torre, the lab studies how light can be used to control and engineer new phases of matter in quantum materials. The postdoc will design and fabricate photonic cavities for strong light-matter coupling at infrared and terahertz frequencies, and develop on-chip ultrafast transport platforms. The work includes integrating exfoliated flakes and thin films of frustrated quantum materials, and characterizing them with time-resolved optical, THz, and second-harmonic-generation spectroscopy.

The role involves device design, electromagnetic simulations, cleanroom nanofabrication, lithography, thin-film deposition, etching, wire bonding, and measurements using advanced lab infrastructure including a 7 T, 1.5 K optical cryostat with RF leads. The researcher will also collaborate with the College of Engineering, mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers, and contribute to publications, presentations, and project reports.

Eligibility highlights: PhD or foreign equivalent in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field completed by the start date. Strong background in photonic/electromagnetic device design, micro- and nanofabrication, and optical or electrical characterization is required. Experience with FDTD or finite-element simulations is expected; cleanroom and ultrafast optics experience is preferred.

Funding: The position is supported by Professor de la Torre’s NSF CAREER award. It is a one-year appointment with the possibility of a second year depending on performance and continued funding. Northeastern also lists a benefits package and an expected salary range of $60,315 to $85,192.50.

Location: Burlington, Massachusetts, United States.

How to apply: Submit a resume through the Northeastern University Workday application portal using the provided link. No deadline is stated in the post.
