About this position
Tampere University is recruiting 12 Postdoctoral Research Fellows in Chip Technologies for its FutureChips Postdoctoral Programme. These are fixed-term, full-time positions for 3 years in the field of next-generation semiconductor technologies, with a research focus on fundamental technology and methods development.
The programme spans four interconnected research areas: advanced compound materials and heterostructures, novel architectures, chip design, and advanced packaging. Successful candidates will design, coordinate, and implement their own research projects and publish results in high-impact venues. The posts are located in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences or the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences.
The research environment is a major strength of this opportunity. Tampere University offers strong capabilities in photonics, chip-level fabrication, advanced packaging, and system-level demonstrators, alongside excellent micro- and nanofabrication facilities. Researchers will also have access to the System-in-Package Fabrication (SiPFAB) infrastructure for heterogeneous system-in-package research and packaging process development, complemented by broader semiconductor fabrication and characterization resources.
Eligibility is targeted to excellent early-career researchers with a doctoral degree in a relevant area such as future electronics, electrical engineering, photonics, micro- and nanotechnology, semiconductor physics, advanced materials, or chip design. Applicants who have defended their thesis by 31 August 2026 but have not yet formally received the degree may also apply, provided degree completion is confirmed before employment starts. Applicants must also have fluent English and must not have spent more than 12 months in Finland during the 36 months before the deadline.
The positions are funded and the salary is €4500 per month before tax under the Finnish University Salary System (job requirement level 5-6). Additional benefits include occupational health care, flexible working hours, strong research infrastructure, campus sports facilities, and staff discounts. The starting date is agreed with the employer, but no later than 1 July 2027.
Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system by 31 August 2026. Required materials include a doctoral degree certificate or official confirmation of thesis completion, a research plan abstract, a full research plan within one of the FutureChips areas, CV, publication list, ethics self-assessment, and a motivation letter. Incomplete or non-compliant applications will not be considered.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
