About this position

Applications are invited for a 4-year postdoctoral research fellow position in bioinformatics at the newly established K.G. Jebsen Centre of Obesity Research (CORA) at the University of Oslo. The role is affiliated with Yvonne Böttcher’s research group in the Department of Clinical Molecular Biology (EpiGen), Institute of Clinical Medicine, and is physically located at Campus Ahus (Akershus University Hospital) in Norway.

The project focuses on epigenetics and obesity research, with particular interest in molecular mechanisms underlying weight regain and long-term weight-loss maintenance. A central theme is the concept of epigenetic memory of obesity in humans, with close collaboration between molecular biology and clinical environments in Norway and abroad.

The successful candidate will work with human biomaterial and cell culture models and analyze high-throughput sequencing data, including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CUT & Tag, CUT & RUN, ribo-seq, RNA methylation, DNA methylation, and obesity-related genetic risk markers. The role includes quality control and preprocessing of raw data, followed by advanced bioinformatics analyses such as differential gene expression, differential DNA methylation, peak calling, transcription factor motif discovery, variant calling, and genome annotation.

The appointment is for 4 years, and part of the time is reserved for career-enhancing tasks (up to 25%). The post is suitable for a researcher with a strong background in medical sciences, molecular biology, and computational analysis who wants to contribute to translational obesity research at a major Norwegian medical research environment.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent. The application deadline is 27 October 2026 at 23:00 (Europe/Oslo). Applications should be submitted through the Jobbnorge page linked in the announcement.
