About this position
PhD position in epigenetics and obesity research at the newly established K.G. Jebsen Centre of Obesity Research (CORA), affiliated with the University of Oslo and the Department of Clinical Molecular Biology (EpiGen), Institute of Clinical Medicine. The work is physically located at Campus Ahus / Akershus University Hospital in Norway.
The project investigates molecular mechanisms behind weight regain, long-term weight loss maintenance, and the concept of epigenetic memory of obesity in humans. The successful candidate will work with human biomaterial, adipose tissue, cell culture models, single-cell and next-generation sequencing, and multi-omics approaches to identify epigenetic biomarkers and mechanisms involved in body weight regulation.
Required background includes an MSc in molecular biology, molecular medicine, genetics, biomedicine, or a related field with grade B or better, plus hands-on experience in molecular biology methods such as RNA/DNA isolation, RT-qPCR, genotyping, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and adipocyte cell culture. Strong English communication skills and the ability to independently plan and execute experiments are essential.
Preferred experience includes obesity research, epigenetics methods (ChIP, Cut & Tag, bisulphite sequencing, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq), next-generation sequencing analysis, programming in R/Python/Unix, and statistics. The position is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration within CORA, clinical environments in Norway and abroad, and the K.G. Jebsen Academy for Young Scientists.
This is a 3-year PhD position with salary as a Doctoral Research Fellow (position code 1017), NOK 550,800–600,000 depending on competence and experience. Application deadline: 2026-10-27.
